The agency will provide transportation to clients over ages 62 or those who are disabled, (recipients of SS or SSD income) who are able to access the vehicle with little or no assistance or with wheelchair lifts. Transportation is offered by appointment only – preferably with 48-hour notice.
Telephone requests within two (2) business days of the appointment will be subject to availability and prioritization for medical appointments and those who schedule in advance. Drivers will wait on the appointments only in the medical center and downtown area. Any other resident who does not meet the age/disability requirements may participate in the transportation program if the vehicle is not full and the intake is completed.
Clients must complete a client information record prior to transportation. Client data will include name, address, telephone numbers, emergency contacts, release of liability and other pertinent data. A copy of client record must be in the possession of the driver during all trips in case of emergencies. Clients should be encouraged to carry personal identification at all times.
Clients will always wear safety belts.
Clients may not be transported by agency vehicles (in lieu of EMS) to an emergency room or trauma center seeking emergency medical care. Clients will not be transported following a hospital discharge or invasive medical procedures that required the administration of general anesthesia.
Passengers may not consume food or beverages while the vehicle is in motion.
All passengers are expected to pay the suggested fares, unless a GRASP Emergency Assistance Intake Form is completed and approved by the President/CEO. The vehicles will operate 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily.
Free Transportation is provided to a caregiver or spouse or other family member who is assisting the elderly or disabled client from pickup to the destination.
Cancellation without notice or failure to appear for appointment will be charged a fee if the driver completes the trip to the point of pick-up.
Free trips can awarded to low-income riders who apply at the GRASP offices for vouchers considering income, need, and residency.
